Thursday, a new festival day. The International Day of Sport Documentary and Feature Film is in full swing. Already at 8:00 AM, a film workshop for primary school students titled “Creating a Sports Film” began at the 2nd Primary School in Rogaška Slatina. Children learned how to capture the best possible shots of a sports scene with a camera and then edit them. Finally, they watched and commented on their creations. The children were thrilled with the workshop.
In the Cultural Centre hall in Rogaška Slatina, primary school students watched the morning film screenings and emerged visibly moved and emotional, as one of the films was the feature-length documentary “Butterflies Without Wings.” This film tells the inspiring story of two boys with severe physical limitations who overcome them to compete in major swimming competitions, most recently at the Paralympic Games in Paris. After this inspiring story, the young audience had a unique opportunity to meet the film’s director, Anel Džanković, and his colleague, Damir Kent. After their discussion, the audience gave them a big round of applause.
While the film program was ongoing in the hall, the organizer, with the help of the Rogaška Slatina Tourist Board, took their guests on a tour of Rogaška Slatina and its surroundings by road train. They ascended the Crystal Tower, visited the Afrodita beauty factory, and the prestige factory, Steklarna Rogaška (Rogaška Glassworks). The excursion concluded at the Pomona tourist farm, in the countryside near Rogaška Slatina.
The day concluded with a thematic “Cinema & Wine” evening. The Russian feature film “Fedya, the People’s Footballer” was screened. It was followed by a pleasant conversation with former footballer Marinko Galić and a wonderful reception prepared by the Gaja Association, an active group of rural women.
