The Partisan Ski Competition in Cerkno was a resounding and unique sporting event. More than 40 partisans attended on 20 and 21 January 1945 and competed in giant slalom, patrol running and ski jumping. The event took place in the liberated partisan Cerkno, which was surrounded by 15,000 members of German and other enemy units within 80 kilometres during the competition. Nevertheless the competition was watched by more than 1,000 spectators.
We can follow the stories of the participants of the competition, spectators, and experts in the field of warfare on skis.
The film also features rich pictorial material and some till now unknown documents that testify how the competition itself took place. The documentary film Partisan Skiing Cerkno ’45 is a story about an event that was unique in the then occupied Europe, it is a film about a real partisan Winter Olympics, which deserves to be included in the world history of skiing and warfare on skis.
