Sports, Passion, and Diversity on the Big Screen

International Film Festival in Rogaška Slatina: Sports, Passion, and Diversity on the Big Screen

Rogaška Slatina, renowned for its rich tradition, spa, and natural beauty, is gearing up for one of the most significant cultural events of the year—the International Sports Film Festival (ISFF), taking place from June 18 to 20, 2025. This year’s festival promises to be particularly spectacular, with just a few days left until the film submission deadline. The entries received so far are impressively diverse and filled with captivating stories.

A Global Cinematic Mosaic

Filmmakers and producers from around the world have once again demonstrated that sports are much more than just games or victories. Sports are stories about humanity, perseverance, passion, and diversity. This year’s festival will showcase films that touch on the fundamental values of sports, from inspiring tales of overcoming obstacles to stories of individuals who achieved the impossible through sheer willpower and determination.

One of the most anticipated films is a story by a Bosnian director, depicting the journey of two disabled children dreaming of becoming swimmers. Their path, filled with challenges and hard work, leads them to compete in Paris. The film is not just about sports; it also emphasizes that it doesn’t matter who you are or what obstacles you face—what matters is your will and perseverance.

Additionally, the audience will have the chance to learn about the story of renowned boxer Dejan Zavec and an exceptional portrait of Slovenian basketball player Goran Dragić. We hope that Mr. Dragić will be present at the premiere, adding a special highlight to the event.

Expert Jury: A Blend of Experience and Passion

The selection of the best films is in the hands of an exceptional jury, led this year by esteemed dramaturge and long-time editor at RTV Slovenia, Ms. Metka Dedakovič. The jury is complemented by:

  • Branka Bešić, a renowned film professional from Belgrade and a member of the European Film Academy based in Berlin,
  • Aca Avramović, a Serbian journalist, film professional, and artistic director of the Zlatibor Festival,
  • and the director of the ŠKL Institute, the license holder of the international film festival under the auspices of FICTS from Milan, which unites 134 global members and 21 festivals worldwide.

The jury faces a challenging task—by the end of March, they must select four films in each category to be presented at the festival. This year, the organizers have introduced a novelty: the films will also be showcased in Ljubljana (Faculty of Sport, Grand Lecture Hall) and Maribor (2nd Gymnasium Maribor). The exact dates and times will be announced in May.

Awards, Guests, and Special Events

In addition to film screenings, the festival will be enriched with other events. The organizers will present traditional lifetime achievement awards in the fields of sports and culture. Previous awardees include director Mitja Okorn, athlete Primož Kozmus, swimmer Sara Isakovič, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin, and many others.

This year, the festival will once again feature the Mini Olympics, taking place on Friday, June 18, in front of the 2nd Elementary School Rogaška Slatina, and a 3×3 basketball tournament with rich prizes provided by the festival’s sponsors and organizers.

Films Available on the NEO Platform

For those unable to attend the festival in person, Telekom’s NEO platform will offer the opportunity to watch the films and participate in public voting. The winner will receive a grand prize from Telekom and a ticket to the finals of the international film festivals in Milan this November.
